    Do you remember a song from 1987-1988 with a woman saying something like: ay papi dame mas. It's not break for love, or sandee - notice me, i have that figured out. and it's not sueno latino.

      @@klassicjam well the thing is I don't know. But it's sampled on a couple records, one being 970 Club - Ay Mas 1990 and the other Seduction - Seduction 1988. They both use the same sample "mas". 970 club uses the "Ay" and "mas" I've been trying to track the original track down for weeks! I've gone through Liz Torres songs too. And can't find it. It's not the frankie bones sexy acapella either. On the Seduction - Seduction record, you can hear the word "mas" as well as the female sample from Break for Love. My guess that the record im looking for is 1988 or earlier.

    • @klassicjam
      @klassicjam Місяць тому

      @@dpalaoro Thanks for the info. I was listening to Seduction a few minutes ago, and this track with the samples sounds like Acid House; not so much Freestyle. If it’s a Chicago House sound with a twist of Freestyle, it’s going to be difficult to find. There are so many tracks out there in this genre I’m unfamiliar with. I noticed some of these are rare and predates the 1988 era. It could be 1986 or 1987. A DJ once told me to pay close attention to the remixers credited on these releases; you’ll have a better chance to find that lost classic that’s been years of searching for. I’ll keep an ear open. I just heard on Channel 54, Sirius XM radio - Studio 54 on Saturday playing all Freestyle music. May want to check it out. Also, heard some house music from time to time. Best of luck, my friend.

      @@klassicjam Well the 970 Club - Ay Mas was released in 1990, the Seduction - Seduction was in 1988. I only brought up the Seduction record because it also has the "mas". But the 970 club has the "ay" and "mas" which I'm on the hunt for. So I reached out to Louis Flores aka Breakbeat Lou. He's the cat that worked with Chep Nunez on that record. He told me those snippets were samples off a Sleeping Bag Records artist. But he doesn't remember because it was so long ago. lol which I can totally understand. How could someone who has worked on so many projects remember something so unimportant. But for me, it Is important! I need to know!!!

    The record I have is the one with the picture sleeve with the dancing couple… the whole song has an echo/hall on it…. There are also pressings where the beat is completely dry … I also have the “dry” 7” because I came across a cheap copy which to me sounds like a demo version but the “wet” mix on the 12” is the best one in my opinion…hope you score a copy!

    Front 242 albums have an extra cool factor in my opinion. Sadly i only have the Up Evil cd. I thought for sure you were gonna show some Skinny Puppy albums. Nitzer Ebb Join in the chant is my favorite track from them.

    • @klassicjam
      @klassicjam 2 місяці тому

      Front 242 albums have a distinct appearance that showcases their brand in the EBM / Industrial universe. My 1st introduction to their sound was on a mixed tape in’88 for “Quite Unusual”. The track was actually released in ‘87 (had no idea). Then I was in the club scene, on the dance floor with a killer sound system… this electronic sound & chanting of “Hey Poor” which was the iconic “Welcome to Paradise” and the rest is history. Their LP’s; especially the early stuff have become rare, collectible, & highly sought after. I did have Skinny Puppy LP at one time, but sold on eBay for around $30 - $35 many years ago entitled “Testure” (I think). Not familiar with their material, but I made a nice profit at that time. Had the opportunity to dig through a collection and seller was only asking $2 each for EBM & Industrial LP’s. That’s how I was able to score the Front 242, A Split Second, and Nitzer Ebb records. Speaking of Nitzer Ebb, my first introduction was “Fun to be Had” remix version and I fell in love with their sound. Went to Sound Warehouse & bought the tape. But I was disappointed because it wasn’t the killer remix. Years later, discovered the remix version was on on “M” DJ Remix Service (actually Steve Masters own label). I can play that track over & over again. Plus Join in the Chant is must-have vinyl in my collection. Well, that’s my musical journey. Thanks for your time & comments as always.

      @@klassicjam Dig it is one of Skinny Puppy's most well known songs from the album the perpetual intercourse. Trent Reznor from NIN mentioned how it influenced his song Down in it. The last song on side B, Burnt with water, runs into the matrix. With a manual turntable it will loop "lord hear my prayer, Amen" sampled from the Exorcist movie. Definitely a cool factor if you're into oddities related to collecting. Split Ends true colours album features a total of 11 different album covers and have laser etched vinyl, again if you're into that sort of thing .

      Early to mid-80’s material released by INXS is their best work in my opinion. I never knew about Daryl Hall in the background till after I bought the 12” single. Now, every time I play it or hear it on the radio, I think about the “mystery” talent in the background. I promise you will enjoy Axodry - “You” I’ll See You in my Dreams. I first heard this track on a mixed tape I recorded from late-night dance club radio back in the day. I never knew the artist or title; I actually wrote on my tape card “I Can See Your Face”… not knowing. No internet back then; and not in my local record stores. I remember back in 2004, scored this gem in Gulfport / Biloxi Mississippi from Goldmines Records for $10.00. The next year, I think the store was wiped out from Hurricane Katrina that devastated the coast the following year - 2005. All those record… what a shame. For Echo & the Bunnymen, my 12” singles collection is complete. I still don’t own any OG full length LP’s. They are so “pricey”. Good chat as always!

    A couple days ago at a record shop I stumbled upon the 12 inch single of a 1984 release from Royalcash. The title is Space Traveler. I had never heard this electro song. My favorite is the instrumental version. We are all very familiar with their biggest hit, Radio Activity.

      Hi Jeffrey! That’s a great pickup with Space Traveler. I haven’t heard that electro track in many years. Actually, I purchased this record back in ‘84 during its release - a memorable moment from my past. I too flipped the record over to spin the instrumental version; it was my favorite as well. Thanks for resurrecting this Old School Electro jam from the ashes. Take care!

      It’s my pleasure, Jeffrey! So happy that you took time to watch my video for the birth of 1984’s Music explosion. Obviously, this is my favorite year and it’s so much fun to share my collection with the vinyl community. When I go digging in the record stores, it seems that I always gravitate towards the 80’s stuff; especially around ‘84. I’m going to show some collectible records next; not necessarily the highest priced and most rare, but the “must-have” vinyl. Stay tuned and thanks again for your comment.

    My 80’s friend, I will certainly follow your recommendations. It’s great to be guided through the 80’s movies & soundtracks that were spawned. I’m ready to take another journey (or a deeper dive) into the 80’s realm of historic music. The list is growing and I really appreciate your contribution of knowledge. I’ve decided to post another video - Part 4 of 1984, there’s more to share!

    I was part of a Dj crew in the 80's . I still have most of the records you are showing. The Nucleus album cover is a classic. It's similar in style to the Africa Bambaataa Renegades of Funk cover. Check out Mantronix from the same time period. Awesome collection and thanks for sharing.

      Wow! I can only imagine the vibe in the DJ booth behind the “wheels of Steel” spinning the those iconic pieces of wax history. When I was 1st introduced to the “Renegades of Funk” vinyl in my local record store back in ‘83, I was just blown away by the artistry of the pictured jacket. Didn’t have to listen to it in the store; back then, they would play the record for you before the purchase. I really miss those times; taking chances - blind buy if you will. The Newcleus tracks I knew, so I knew the LP would be top notch. Yeah, the jacket alone would get you to buy. Mantronix: I have “Needle to the Groove” vinyl plus their CD’s. Great artist - love their style. Hope we can talk again, & thanks for your comment; of course, your dedication to the 80’s grooves!

      @@klassicjam record shopping was the same for me. The stores had a Dj setup and would play a record for you to listen to before purchase. I'm in Toronto and there were a few stores that would import U.S. and U.K. records. One store, owned by two brothers , would have one brother drive to NYC each week to pick up the latest "wax". Every weekend was like a race to get to the store before the latest hot traxx sold out.

      @@Eyerex the 80's Hip Hop/rap culture was awesome. Graffiti, B boys, B girls with name plate belt buckles, Kangols, Cazels, rope chains, shell toes and Clydes, track suits, Dj battles, break dancing, ghetto blasters, rec hall dances. The younger generations missed out. Joyce Sims tracks could pack the dance floor guaranteed.

    You could write a reference guide for 12” singles. I was brought up on Top 40 radio. Thus, I missed out on a lot of artists that are in your collection. You’re so right about The Smiths’ “How Soon Is Now.” I’m pursuing that track, but it has become pricey. Love that song with its haunting guitar licks. And I still don’t have “ Breaker’s Revenge.” Sometimes I collect 12” singles not so much for the artist, but the remixer himself. If you don’t have it, you should hear how Arthur Baker deconstructed Bruce Springsteen’s “ Cover Me.” Anymore 1984 videos on deck? 👍👍👍👍

      Man, that’s the coolest comment my 80’s friend! “How Soon is Now” was 1st introduced to me in the late 80’s club scene. This was a mesmerizing track with that iconic “haunting” guitar licks played into the early morning; sometimes the last song before the lights came on at 5 AM. This UA-cam channel is a great platform to share this “uncharted” or “Lost Mixes” Vinyl 12” singles with listeners that grew up on Top 40 radio. I’m still discovering music from the 80’s through subscribers like yourself and research through other videos; and especially Discogs. And YES, I’ve been watching this 12” single from The Smiths increasing in price over the years. I can almost guarantee you that record store owners know this song & its value. YES, there will be a next video - Part 4. Pulled out another stack from the shelves; I just knew were more ‘84 releases. Stay tuned and hopefully you’ll see some “hidden treasures” in the video.

    Check out Terri Nunn in the 1978 disco film Thank God It’s Friday. I remember DJs segueing Let The Music Play into Give Me Tonight because they were so similar - another 12” single to seek out from that album is My Heart’s Divided. I’m waiting for you to present 12” singles from The Comsat Angels. Their big song is “I’m Falling.” It is featured in the film Real Genius with Val Kilmer. 1984 was my first year collecting 12” singles. I should’ve been collecting since 1976. But, I simply didn’t know they existed until 1984.

      Thanks for your wonderful comment; especially from the Doctor himself. I’ve watched many of your videos throughout the years - very rare gems from the 80’s. Yes Indeed! Jam on Revenge is an LP that I was so fascinated with upon its release in ‘84. I had sold it in my teens, and regained it later when I started collecting again at 30ish. Tyrone Brunson is another artist that I remember going to Wal-Mart & purchasing the 45’s; (I think) $1.45 was the purchase price back in the day. Please check out my next video just posted. Thanks again for watching!

There’s more Electro from this year that I no longer have in my collection; regrettably sold on EBay many years ago. Prices have soared & not affordable anymore. Next on the list for sure. A pleasure as always; hope you score and fulfill your treasure chest of vinyl goodies.
